In prelude to the launch of its activities for the year 2025, the association of Female Journalists best known by the French acronym JAFEC made a courtesy visit to the High Commissioner of Canada to Cameroon this November 7, 2024. The delegation of three persons led by its President Jeanine Fankam were received in an audience by the political counsellor, Richard Le Bars. On the agenda was a presentation of the association, its objectives, activities as well as successes.
JAFEC (Journalists of Action) emphasized its crucial role in fostering strong leadership within the female press. This is particularly important as journalism becomes increasingly feminized, with women now comprising over 60% of the workforce in both schools and newsrooms. JAFEC is committed to ensuring that this numerical dominance translates into high-quality production. To achieve this, the organization encourages its members to distinguish themselves through exceptional professional practice.
The discussion with Richard Le Bars, facilitated by Christèle Ngueajio, also explored potential support opportunities offered by the High Commission of Canada or the Canadian government for journalism projects. JAFEC expressed its intention to investigate these possibilities further.
